asapsIt’s about time for ASAPS (American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) to present the statistics regarding plastic surgery for 2013 (full presentation of the stats for 2013 will come on March 2014)! One of the first results that ASAPS announced is that there is a beyond doubt increase in Labiaplasty and Buttock Augmentation demand during the previous year signifying a boost in “beyond-the-belt” procedures!  Of course we need to notice that Labiaplasty and Buttock Augmentation represent only a tiny part of cosmetic procedures! But a boost of 44% (for Labiaplasty) and 58% (for Butt Augmentation) is an impressive number we should highlight!

The president-elect of ASAPS, Michael Edwards, claims: “I believe the dramatic increase in both of these procedures is indicative of much larger global trends respecting body image, an ever-evolving concept of beauty, and self-confidence. More women are pursuing these procedures as a means to achieve a standard of beauty they deem appropriate for themselves, however I believe more women are also pursuing procedures like labiaplasty to correct labia-related issues that are interfering with their ability to perform sexually, to perform daily tasks such as exercise, or are merely causing discomfort,”

Another important stat we should underline is that there is an upward trend in the number of surgeons that perform labiaplasty (to find doctors performing labiaplasty click this), from 21% to 29% (only during 2013) and from 19% to 30% for Buttock Augmentation!

The renowned member of ASAPS, Christine Hamori stated: “The reality is that women have been grooming themselves differently for about the past ten years, with many eliminating pubic hair altogether, and consequently, they are noticing what things look like in that region as a result. Many of my patients want to achieve a clean, smooth look as they would with their face and underarms,” while the president of ASAPS, Jack Fisher said: “I am seeing a tremendous rise in requests for buttock augmentation procedures in my practice year-over-year,”

We need to wait for a few more days in order for more steady and detailed conclusions on the plastic surgery trends! Stay tuned!
