Hi Kandace,

Thanks for your question. Liposuction is an extremely popular option to treat this exact issue that you have raised. Liposuction procedures (no matter what method you use) is not an alternative to a healthy lifestyle but choosing to have Liposuction is an effective way to remove stubborn areas of fat that no matter how much you diet and/or exercise this fat just won’t budge.

Liposuction is used to remove the fat from these unwanted areas and create a more balanced and streamlined shape. It is impossible to ”spot reduce” areas with exercise and the only way to actually target your love handles or any specific area is to use Liposuction to remove the unwanted fat.

After Liposuction if you maintain a healthy lifestyle the fat shouldn’t return to your love handle area. However, there will always be remaining fat cells that can enlarge were you to drastically alert your weight. What Liposuction will do for you in the long term is that by removing these excess fat cells, if you were to gain weight it wouldn’t be localised in the one area as it was prior to the procedure.

I hope my answer has helped. If you need more information I have a page on my website called ”Fat Facts After Liposuction” that explains in greater detail what happens to the body and the remaining fat cells after Liposuction.

Have a great day,
Dr Joseph Ajaka
