Everything you should know about Mommy Makeover
by Beauty Blogger Ivana Craft
You’ve made it through childbirth and your pregnancy days are finally over. Now, you may feel “changed” and somehow strange when you look at yourself in the mirror, but that’s a perfectly normal thing. Sometimes, this feeling doesn’t go away that easily – not even after a year or two of strict diets and rigorous exercises and you may feel as if you’ve lost your old, firm body you used to be so proud of.
This is not surprising, as some common post-partum issues such as stretched skin and changed breast shape can’t be fixed by effort only. In such cases, a mommy makeover may be the only solution – a group of surgical procedures aimed at restoring women’s pre-baby body shape. Just because you’re a devoted mother doesn’t mean you must sacrifice your youthful looks and a mommy makeover may be the solution you were searching for.
What does a mommy makeover include?
Women who suffer from loose skin in their tummy and breast area, large C-section scars, stretch marks and similar post-partum issues usually turn to plastic surgeons to solve these aesthetic problems that are beyond any “natural” repair.
Breast lift (mastopexy)
A breast lift is a procedure that removes the excess breast skin, tightens them and improves their shape. The loss of breast firmness can be caused by pregnancy, breastfeeding, age and genetics, and this surgery helps restore breast elasticity.
Breast augmentation (breast implants)
If you’re dissatisfied with the size of your breasts, lift alone won’t be very helpful. Breast augmentation (enlargement) is a procedure that makes breasts fuller and, accompanied by a breast lift, gives the best results.
Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
After childbirth and/or rapid weight loss, skin in the abdominal area can be loose and full of stretch marks. Tummy tuck is a procedure that aims to get rid of the excess skin and bring back the pre-baby, flat abdomen. This type of surgery can be both cosmetic and reconstructive, since it can be also used to correct severe abdominal abnormalities.
Women who have excess fat on their thighs, abdomen and buttocks can undergo liposuction – a cosmetic surgery that removes fat from different areas of the body. This surgery can be performed under general or local anesthesia, depending on the body area you’re removing the fat from.
How to know if a mommy makeover is the right decision for you?
If you’re not planning on having more children and if you’re a non-smoker in good health, you can consider a mommy makeover. Also, if you’ve already experimented with diets and exercises and nothing works – this may be the only permanent solution to help you restore and enhance your youthful body shape.
However, there are certain risks and possible complications, as most surgeries are performed under general anesthesia. Most mommy makeover surgeries combine the two procedures (tummy tuck and breast surgery) to prevent going under general anesthesia twice.
It’s best to consult a professional before deciding on anything. An expert surgeon will assess your case and give you personalized advice on whether you’re a desirable candidate for surgery. Also, they’ll be able to recommend the procedures that might be best for you.
