BAAPS: Liposuction falls, Fat Transfer rises!
We have some interesting news coming straight from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baaps)! Their recent study showed that it’s the very first time that fat injection treatments are more popular than liposuction!
The president of Baaps, Rajiv Grover said: “Interestingly, for the first time we see a greater number of women having surgeries to re-insert fat – known as fat transfer, to add volume to the face – than to remove it, in the form of liposuction.” and he added: “The considerable drop in body-shaping procedures such as liposuction and tummy tucks may well be due to people choosing to head back to the gym (perhaps inspired by an unforgettable summer of Olympic golds!) or the fact that there are now many less-invasive options to target problem areas, such as for gynaecomastia or ‘man boobs’.”
The study showed that fat transfer treatments from hips thighs, etc to body parts like face or hands (with increased laxity due to aging) raised by 13{f4e1575822752660c3387461b06f16047197db710b64f29e8565d582c3a8cd4f} while we had a 14{f4e1575822752660c3387461b06f16047197db710b64f29e8565d582c3a8cd4f} reduction of liposuction procedures! Breast Augmentation is still the most popular cosmetic surgery (more than 10000 women opted for that during 2012) while its important to underline that anti-ageing procedures (like face lifts) had a 10{f4e1575822752660c3387461b06f16047197db710b64f29e8565d582c3a8cd4f}+ rise though recession also increased! Finally we have to notice that only 1/10 of the cosmetic surgeries were conducted on men!
