The fact that Stem Cells do reside on fat tissue wasn’t something we didn’t know! But now a research from UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) shows that fat tissue harvested during liposuction includes some new stem cells with amazing features.

It is the first time we are able to gather and recognize the specific type of stem cells which carry a few unique features apart from the potential to differentiate into many different types of cells. These cells are called Muse-AT!

Dr. Gregorio Chazenbalk, the study senior author says: “We have been able to isolate these cells using a simple and efficient method that takes about six hours from the time the fat tissue is harvested,” and adds “This research offers a new and exciting source of fat stem cells with pluripotent characteristics, as well as a new method for quickly isolating them. These cells also appear to be more primitive than the average fat stem cells, making them potentially superior sources for regenerative medicine.”

How do Muse-AT Stem Cells differ from other stem cells?

It is not the first that stem cells are gathered but what makes Muse-AT cells unique is the fact that according to recent studies these cells are pretty stable and don’t lead to tumors or teratomas, which is something common to other stem cells sources! In addition Muse-AT cells are pretty resistant to stress. Dr Chazenbanlk claims: “Our in vitro studies indicate that Muse-AT lies dormant in the fat tissue until it is subjected to very harsh conditions. These cells can survive in conditions in which usually only cancer cells can live,”!

Finally Dr. Chanzebalk spoke about the future potential of Muse-AT Cells: “Muse-AT cells, upon further investigation and clinical trials, could prove a revolutionary treatment option for numerous diseases, including heart disease, stroke, and for tissue damage and neural regeneration by providing a source of cells that would replenish the damaged areas,”

Lipoadvisor.com will stay tuned for new studies regarding Stem Cells because we strongly believe these cells will be our better chance in our battle against the most severe diseases the human being faces!
