Yep. Plastic surgery can help you battle cancer!

People who undergo plastic surgery usually get a lot of flak for it. Plastic surgery is often frowned upon because it’s seen as a pointless cosmetic procedure. Sure, everyone knows that plastic surgery can come in quite useful for burn victims, car accident victims, and those with a deviated septum, but only a few people are aware of the fact that plastic surgery helps cancer patients in so many different ways.

Plastic surgery can be done as a preventive measure.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you already know that Angelina Jolie underwent a double mastectomy earlier this year. She found out that she carried a mutation of the BRCA1 gene, which is known to sharply increase a woman’s risk of develop breast or ovarian cancer, and decided to have her breasts removed as a preventive measure. This decision will help her a lot in the long run, as it will help any woman who decides to do the same thing.

Plastic surgery restores cancer patients’ sense of normalcy.

Many cancer patients don’t want to be reminded of what they went through, so they undergo plastic surgery to help restore their own sense of normalcy. A popular plastic surgery procedure for breast cancer patients is breast reconstruction. Skin cancer patients often undergo Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS). It’s a procedure where a plastic surgeon examines your tissue under a microscope and scrapes away cancer cells until s/he has removed all the cancer. This procedure is preferred because it helps keep as much healthy skin as possible and it’s the best option when it comes to cancer in areas where there can’t be a lot of tissue removed (such as near the eyes and nose).

Alternate methods of fighting cancer

If you prefer not to go under the knife, you can consider trying other things to help fight cancer. There are some obvious ones like giving up drinking and smoking and taking up exercise. If you’re already a non-smoker and non-drinker who exercise on a regular basis, you want to look at your eating habits.

If you’re in remission, your diet is very important. You want to ingest whole organic foods that are chock full of nutrients. Put away that candy bar and start eating some more nuts. A predominantly plant-based diet is the best diet you could have if you want to beat cancer. The more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains you ingest, the more likely you’ll win your battle against cancer. It’s also better to eat them raw, because the heat generated while cooking vegetables kills most of the nutrients.

You can also grab a juicer and experiment with any of the fruits and vegetables you may have lying around the house. Fresh juice is full of antibiotics, vitamins, and cancer-fighting phytochemicals. They’re actually better for you because your body absorbs nutrients more easily when they’re in liquid form. For example, one cup of carrot juice provides the same amount of nutrients as 5 cups of chopped carrots.

Your nutrition is extremely important when it comes to fighting cancer. You want to keep the cancer cells in check, so if you don’t have a juicer, get one and put it to good use!
