Smartlipo by Cynosure uses the science of laser-assisted lipolysis, or laser liposuction to contour the body by inserting a thin tube into fatty problem areas through a very small incision. The inserted laser fibers send thermal energy to the targeted fat cells and in so doing, melt the fat which is then gently removed from the body by suctioning it outward through the same thin tube. As the fat is removed, the laser technology used to dispel the fat cells also has a tightening effect on the skin by coagulating the area to create a smoother, more even surface.

Is Smartlipo Right For Me?

Not every potential patient who is interested in Smartlipo is best suited for the procedure. Men and women who are in relative good health and within a normal weight range (no more than around 25 pounds overweight), who are struggling with stubborn fat deposit areas on their body make optimal candidates for this procedure.

What Areas of My Body Should I Treat With Smartlipo?

Any area that just doesn’t seem to respond to consistent diet and exercise is generally the type of region that patients like to target. Fat deposits like to settle in the form of “love handles” or “muffin tops”, at the jaw line, the upper arms, the upper back along the bra line, in the form of male breasts or in the lower abdominal region. These are typical spots for Smartlipo sessions though it’s mostly up to the patient to determine what area of the body they want to treat.

Does Smartlipo Hurt?

Smartlipo is a relatively pain free procedure due to the anesthesia that is applied to the problem area prior to treatment. Patients most often mention feeling slight pressure during the procedure and some mild aches post-treatment, but all in all it’s quite painless and the compression garment worn after the treatment helps relieve these slight aches.

How Long Does Smarlipo Take?

Each session typically takes between 1.5-2 hours total to complete. Of course the timing of each session will depend largely on which areas of the body are being treated or whether or not multiple areas are being treated per session.

How Many Smartlipo Sessions Will I Need?

Most patients will notice significant improvements after their first treatment and will be pleased with that session alone. Other patients seek optimal results and may pursue additional sessions which can be discussed with the doctor beforehand. Though results can be noticed within a week following a session, continued improvement will continue over a 3-6 month period post-treatment.
