safelipo logoAs one of the top 5 cosmetic surgical procedures in the United States over the past decade, according to new national data, there’s no doubt liposuction remains in popular demand in 2014. Liposuction is a viable option for removing fat from stubborn, diet- and exercise-resistant areas. But with a number of different liposuction techniques available today, it’s important to research and understand the pros and cons of each.

Although liposuction results are permanent as long as a patient maintains a healthy lifestyle and doesn’t regain weight, some forms of liposuction can have negative aftereffects such as surface irregularities, tissue damage, and dermal adhesions. Enter a safer, better alternative called SAFELipo®

The SAFELipo Difference

More plastic surgeons are beginning to offer the SAFELipo approach to liposuction. Developed by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Simeon Wall Jr., SAFELipo is a new liposuction technique  that allows for safe, effective, and natural-looking results with less chance of negative side effects.

SAFELipo differs from other liposuction techniques in that it uses a 3-step patented process that combines all the benefits of liposuction, fat shifting, and fat grafting. Unwanted fat cells are first loosened, emulsified, and separated then gently removed. Lastly, the thin remaining layer of fat is equalized without damaging valuable blood vessels or healthy skin and tissues.

In  an issue  of Cosmetic Surgery Times, Dr. Wall explains that, “Conventional wisdom dictates that the more aggressive, or more superficial, a surgeon performs liposuction, the higher the chances of creating a contour deformity. This is why most surgeons use more conservative liposuction techniques.” In comparison to other newer technologies promising procedural improvements, such as laser-assisted and ultrasound-assisted liposuction, SAFELipo has proven to offer the best solution for achieving optimal results with the fewest irregularities. The results achieved are as effective, and often better, than those with traditional liposuction, making SAFELipo ideal for patients who have moderate amounts of fat to remove.

SAFELipo for Hyperhidrosis

SAFELipo isn’t just used for fat removal. It can also be used to treat excessive sweating, a condition known as hyperhidrosis. While sweating is perfectly normal, hyperhidrosis can cause noticeable odor and soaked clothing, often resulting in embarrassment and discomfort

The SAFELipo technique can be performed on the underarms where excessive sweat is produced, resulting in a permanent decrease of sweat production. It works by deactivating and disrupting the sweat- and odor-producing glands without harming surrounding tissues.

Lunch Hour Body Contouring

There is another new technique available for people who want to slim down smaller trouble areas of fat, and it’s completely non-invasive. CoolSculpting® is a non-surgical procedure that requires no recovery or downtime. In fact, it can even be done during a person’s lunch break, as treatments typically take less than an hour and do not require any incisions or anesthesia.

During the procedure, a cooling device that freezes and dissolves unwanted fat cells is placed on the skin of the target area. The cold energy damages the fat cells inside and leaves other tissues unharmed. A couple of months following treatment, the targeted fat cells die off and are naturally eliminated from the body. The result is safe, gradual fat reduction with complete results within 2 or 3 months. CoolSculpting results are not as dramatic as with SAFELipo, but they offer a pretty cool alternative for affordable, non-invasive fat removal.
