Vanity has no age, nationality or gender. Beauty does not just lie on the face. In a society where plastic surgery has been increasingly undergone by men and women from different walks of life, it is no wonder that plastic surgery is now specialized on different body areas. Here are the top kinds of cosmetic procedures on the body.

Mammoplasty or breast augmentation

Breast augmentation is availed of by women and female transgenders. This process involves inserting a pair of silicon or saline solution filled implants. The size of the resulting breasts will depend on the implant’s volume (measured in cubic centimeters or cc). The implants can be inserted sub muscular or sub glandular. Patients who have undergone mammoplasty should avoid breast contact (squeezing, bumping, massaging) for 3 months.

Mastopexy or Breast Lift

For women with sagging breasts who want to reshape their breasts without implants, breast lift is a milder approach. It involves removing extra skin so other tissues can be repositioned or lifted. Downtime takes a month.

Breast Reduction

Women who find their breasts too large or men who have gynecomastia often undergo breast reduction. The process removes excess mammary fat or glandular tissue. Recovery takes 3 weeks.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a quick-fix to lose weight. The lipo procedure involves inserting a tube on the subcutaneous layer of the skin to suction fat deposits. It can be performed on the buttocks, abdomen, hips and thighs. Recovery time takes 4 weeks but it can take up to 6 months for the swelling to subside.

Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck

Sagging abdomen is no stranger to women who have given birth. Tummy tuck involves removing extra fat and skin so the muscles and remaining skin can be stretched, resulting to tighter-looking abdomen. Recovery time takes around 6 weeks.

Brachioplasty or Upper arm lift

Mature women notice that their upper arms appear flabby, skinny and saggy. Upper arm lift involves removing the excess skin and fat deposits so skin can be stretched and tightened. Recovery takes around 2 weeks. Lifting heavy objects should be avoided for up to 3 weeks.

Buttock Lift

Age or genetics causes people’s buttocks to be saggy or to look underdeveloped. Buttock lift involves removing excess fat and skin around the thighs and redepositing the fat around the buttocks before tightening and sealing the skin in order to raise the buttocks. Recovery can take around 4 weeks but the swelling may take up to 4 months. During these 4 weeks, sitting may not be recommended.
