ASPS Study connects Tummy Tuck with weight loss
A new study from ASPS shows that Tummy Tuck can bring about long-lasting weight loss effect! This study had 20 women participants who had tummy tuck and measured their weight during the next 12 months and the results are pretty interesting!
Three New York Plastic Surgeons that took part in this study spoke about the results and what they report is pretty encouraging! Dr. Greenwald says “We typically perform Tummy Tuck to remove excess fat while correcting skin laxity and restoring weakened abdominal muscles – often the results of pregnancy or significant weight loss. The ASPS study indicates that a tummy tuck may offer greater benefits than previously thought.”
Dr. Samuel Beran, another New York plastic Surgeon and colleague of Dr. Greenwald adds “While abdominoplasty is not inherently a weight-loss procedure, it may provide some unexpected weight loss benefits. The results appear especially promising for patients who have larger amounts of tissue excised.”
Finally, Dr. Christian Guzman, partner of the two previously mentioned surgeons, reports that the study’s participants had a feeling of fullness and suppression of appetite which probably happens due to post op hormonal change, though he adds that this shouldn’t boost the patients weight loss expectations! And all 3 surgeons agree that though abdominoplasty seems to bring about some weight loss effects, its important for the patient to follow a healthy diet and a decent work out schedule in order for optimum results!
So if someone wouldn like to achieve some weight reduction apart from removing extra fat, it seems that tummy tuck is the best cosmetic procedure for him!
