“UltraShape V3 Exposed” by Vanessa Bird
by Syneron Developer Manager, Vanessa Bird
A concern of men and women is often localised fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. These fat deposits are located in the subcutaneous fat located under the skin. Typical areas are in the lower abdomen, outer thighs (saddlebags), love handles, flanks and upper arms.
Liposuction is the most commonly performed surgical & invasive procedure for such areas of localised unwanted fat, and although safe, it does carry a number of downsides, such as risk of infection, long recovery time, swelling, pain, bruising and aftercare.
UltraShape V3 now offers a permanent reduction of fat cells in treated areas, by using pulsed, focused waves of ultrasound at a precise depth that target the fat cells and burst them, allowing the contents to leak into the body and be burned off rapidly. It is a safe, effective and painless treatment that gives measurable noticeable results in as little as 10 days of the first treatment. UltraShape is non invasive & non surgical so has no recovery time.
The patient will be assessed to see if they are a suitable candidate for UltraShape V3. UltraShape V3 will NOT treat visceral fat (the fat inside the body surrounding the organs that can only be reduced by lifestyle and diet changes) and it will not treat cellulite. However it is ideal for localised fat in the abdominal area, flanks, thighs, upper arms and back. Prices start from £420 per area.
The treatment area is marked and the patient lies down and the machine is programmed. The amount of pulses and the depths of the pulses are set at this stage. UltraShape can treat up to 3 depths of fat simultaneously and is tailored to suit the individual and to give them maximum results.
The patient now relaxes as the area is pre-headed using radiofrequency to ensure that the results are enhanced further by pulling water to the treatment area (ultrasound works by cavitation). The treatment is then carried out.
The operator will fire an ultrasound pulse at each of the highlighted dots on the screen. The patient may feel a slight tingling or buzzing sensation but no excessive heat or pain will be felt. No area can be treated more than once per treatment session and this ensures a smooth, even result. The patient can talk while the treatment is being carried out and can watch the treatment on the screen. Some prefer to relax and listen to music or even fall asleep.
Once treatment is completed, the procedure is finished by a few minutes of radiofrequency to allow lymphatic drainage and skin tightening, before the patient is free to leave and carry on with their everyday activities. From start to finish the treatment can take between 1-2 hours depending on the size and number of areas treated.
What Happens To The Fat?
During treatment, the membranes of the fat cells are disrupted, allowing the contents to leak into the fluid between the cells. This is then transported through the vascular & lymphatic system to the liver. The liver makes no distinction between fat from food and fat from an UltraShape treatment & both are processed by the body’s natural mechanisms.
As soon as treatment is completed, the patient can resume normal everyday activities. No recovery is necessary. There is no bruising, swelling, pain or discomfort. It is advised that he patient stay hydrated with water and to follow a low fat diet over the following few days to help the body clear the fat.
Clinical results show an average reduction of between 4-10cm after 3 treatments. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they cannot return. No maintenance treatments are required. UltraShape recommend 3 treatments spaced 2weeks apart.
UltraShape has been shown to be safe and effective in multi-centre controlled trials with over 250,000 patients treated worldwide. There are currently more than 7 peer-reviewed published articles & book chapters on UltraShape. Contraindications for treatment are as follows:
- Under 18 years of age
- Pregnant or lactating
- Patients with implanted cardiac defibrillator, pacemaker or other electromagnetic implant
- Patients with severe hyperlipidemia or fatty liver
- Liver Disease
- Connective tissue disease
- Bleeding disorder
How does UltraShape differ to other non-invasive ultrasound devices?
UltraShape is the only device to use pulsed focused ultrasound that selectively targets & destroys the fat cells in a mechanical, non-thermal, non-inflammatory process. This means no recovery time and results in as little as 7-10 days. Other ultrasound devices on the market use non-focused ultrasound which cannot break fat cells. Others use non-pulsed focused ultrasound which heats the tissue causing a thermal effect that leads to fat cell inflammation & death & is shown to be less selective. It also warrants a longer recovery time as the body usually needs 6-8 weeks to process the thermal injury to surrounding tissue, blood vessels and nerves to.
UltraShape is the ONLY device that uses a real-time tracking & guidance system for 3D mapping of the patient’s body curvature to ensure complete & uniform energy delivery over the entire treatment area, minimizing the risks of contour irregularities.
