What Is LipoSuction
If you’re interested in dropping some extra pounds or tightening up your skin for a more attractive look, you may be considering liposuction, among other options. If you don’t know much about the procedure, however, it can seem daunting since it is a surgical operation. Liposuction is also called lipoplasty, which means “fat modeling.” Sometimes it is also called liposculpture suction lipectomy, which means “suction-assisted fat removal.” For short, the operation is known simply as “lipo” which is a term that causes confusion while lipo also means lipolysis (lysis of fatty molecules) which also refers to non surgical options!
How Does Liposuction Work
Though there are many liposuction types the main idea behind each of them is similar: First the surgeon makes an incision which is necessary in order for a cannula (thin hollow tube) to be inserted inside the body and reach the fat layer! This cannula breaks the fat cells (by utilizing mechanical movement, laser, ultrasounds etc) and then fat is removed via suction! The wounds are sutured or left open in order for better drainage of surgical fluids. For more details on the Liposuction Steps read this.
Liposuction Techniques
There are a number of different techniques for performing liposuction. Traditionally this is a fairly invasive procedure in which the skin is peeled away from the body and excess fat is removed before laying the skin back down. In recent years, however, different forms have emerged on the market to cater to customers who want to do something a little less drastic! The most popular methods are Ultrasonic Liposuction, Tumescent Liposuction, Power Assisted Liposuction and Laser liposuction. Ultrasonic liposuction involves applying ultrasounds externally or internally which lead to fat cells destruction. Tumescent liposuction doesn’t involve general anesthesia, but instead utilizes a solution of lidocaine and epinephrine to anesthetize the area and destroy fat cells. Laser Liposuction utilizes laser beam to destroy fat cells. For complete analysis of all Liposuction Techniques click the link
Body Areas to be treated
Lipo can be performed on many different parts of the body. Common choices include the thighs, buttocks, and abdomen, though you may also have excess fat removed from your arms or other parts of your body. In extra sensitive regions, it may not be possible to do liposuction, though sometimes tumescent liposuction offers a way to work around delicate nerve endings safely.

What to consider before opting for Lipo?
If you’re thinking about getting liposuction, you will need to research the subject thoroughly so that you understand the procedure itself, the possible complications and side effects, the cost and other expenditures, as well as what you’ll need to do to recover after your operation. Liposuction is becoming more accessible to patients and less invasive, but it is still a relatively drastic option for reducing fat and skin, so it’s best to make sure that you’re a good candidate for the operation before you commit.
You’ll also need to locate a surgeon who will fit your budget and be able to help you achieve the appearance you’re aiming for. During your consultation you’ll have another opportunity to learn even more about the procedure from the professional who will be doing it, and this gives you yet another chance to evaluate your own candidacy.

Who are ideal candidates for Liposuction?
People that work out, people that follow a healthy diet that cannot lose a few pounds of fat in specific body areas! We need to make clear that people that are overweight are not good candidates for lipo, while removing huge amount of fat can be extremely dangerous for someone’s health! To say it in a few words, liposuction is not a solution to obesity! Your BMI (Body Mass Index) is a good parameter to take into consideration in order to find if you a good candidate for liposuction. If your BMI is more than 40, then you are Level 3 Obese and you should probably consider the option of Gastric Bypass or other weight loss surgeries to drastically reduce weight. If your BMI is between 30 and 40, again you are not a good candidate for liposuction. In that case you should try to reduce your BMI to less than 30 by following a balanced diet and work out schedule.
Finally another important factor to consider is how loose your skin is and whether there is pre op laxity! This is also related to the age (skin elasticity is reduced while getting older) and this is why old people are not ideal lipo candidates. Hopefully during the last years many liposuction methods that utilize laser or ultrasounds which boost the production of collagen have arisen! These Techniques (Smart Lipo, VASER Lipo etc) provide skin tightening apart from removing fat, and this allows for people with poor quality skin to opt for liposuction!!

What should you expect after Liposuction?
You have to be aware of the issues you will face after liposuction. The recovery period won’t be without side effects but there are some tips in order to face them! Besides noone says that after liposuction your fat will stay off your body. If you consume less or equal calories to what you need you have nothing to worry about. If the amount of calories you consume is higher then the fat will come back. So what you need to do is obtain a healthy way of living that includes work outs, healthy, balanced (you need to consume fats, carbohydrates and proteins) diet, drinking much water (more than 2.5 liters per day) in order to keep your metabolism high and make it easier for you to keep fat away of your body!
Procedures combined with Liposuction
Sometimes the procedure will be combined with other surgical operations such as a face lift or a breast lift. Not all procedures can be combined with liposuction safely, however; for example, you cannot get upper abdominal lipo suction and abdominoplasty at the same time.
Our Advice
Liposuction isn’t for everyone, but it has helped many people to attain an appearance that is closer to their ideal. Liposuction won’t grant you physical perfection, and it won’t make other people see you in a different way—only you can change how others see you, and physical perfection is unattainable. What is attainable however is greater confidence and a healthier self-image. With those on your side, you are more likely to enjoy social success, and more importantly, you may be more comfortable with your body.
