Liposuction Side Effects
While liposuction can be a great way to get the figure you really want, like each other invasive treatment it isn’t going to be without complications during surgery and post operation side effects. Recovery from liposuction may take weeks or months; a lot depends on how intensive the procedure you had was as well as on your body’s own healing ability. What are some of the side effects which you may experience during your recovery?
Common Liposuction Side Effects
-
Swelling & Pain
Some liposuction side effects are very common, almost to the point of ubiquity. Any time you have surgery, whether liposuction or another operation, you’re going to experience bruising and swelling immediately after the operation is complete. The bruising may also cause you some pain. After your surgery you will need to take a pain medication for a couple of weeks to assist you in withstanding the pain. You may take an OTC medication or your doctor may prescribe something; either way you will not be taking an NSAID for the pain since that may increase bleeding, which could cause complications. A consequence of swelling is the lumps that appear in the wounded area due to the different amount of swelling on different areas of the fat tissue! But this is also something natural and be sure that lumps will disappear when swelling starts fading!

Scars
Will you have liposuction scars after you’ve recovered from your surgery? The answer is that you may or you may not and this depends on various factors; The skill of the surgeon (read this to find how to pick a really skillfull surgeon) is a really important factor for how ugly your scars look. Besides some people scar without much injury at all, while others don’t get scars even from severe wounds. Your scars will also depend on the procedure/technique you had and how invasive it was. Scarring is more likely if your surgeon opts not to use sutures to close your wounds, but this can be done to help your body drain excess fluids and avoid other complications. Most scars will fade within a matter of weeks, though it could take as long as a year for yours to fade. There is also an unpleasant possibility of permanent scars!
-
Skin Laxity
One of the most commmon side effects of a liposuction process is the skin laxity that follows a Liposuction process. This is a normal side effect while the skin at the area that is going to be treated is stretched and inevitably after fat removal you are going to notice some laxity which can be minor or major (depends on many factors like the skin quality and elasticity, the age etc)! This is another side effect that will normally disappear after a period of 3-6 months!

Reduced Mobility
It’s also a commons situation that you won’t be able to move around as much for a while after the procedure. How limited your mobility is will be determined by the type of procedure you had. Your compression garment, which you’ll be wearing for a couple of weeks, can limit your movement, as can a need to keep your head elevated. Swelling and pain may also make it hard for you to move around. Most people can go back to work and normal activities within a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Your surgeon will let you know when you should return to your usual activities. Being as you’ll be resting for a while however, it’s also possible you’ll gain some weight after your operation. You can of course lose this weight afterward by getting back to your exercise routine.
It’d be impossible to go through any surgery without some side effects. Even though liposuction doesn’t involve a lot of cutting, it is still a somewhat invasive procedure, and as such it’s going to cause you to experience some pain, swelling, and bruising. Aside from these side effects, which are temporary in nature and will definitely take place, you may also have to deal with complications (during and post operation), which we will discuss in another article.
