ASPS Meeting in San Diego: Key Events

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the leading organization of board-certified plastic surgeons, is meeting at the San Diego Convention Center from Oct. 11-15. The event, titled Plastic Surgery – The Meeting, promises to have the leading surgeons from over 50 countries. The aim of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for experienced surgeons, trainees, and other healthcare professionals to interact with each other. Experienced surgeons will share their expertise with the trainees to help them in their career as a reconstructive plastic surgeon. Let us take you through some of the key events that will happen in this event.

October 11

Residents Day: The program will start with Residents Day, which will focus on the career after residency. The program will also provide an overview of the plastic surgery board examination. It will focus on the information on practice models and injectables.

Refining Primary Rhinoplasty Results—Minimizing Secondary Rhinoplasties: This event will focus on rhinoplasty. Experts from The Rhinoplasty Society will have a discussion on the essential points of rhinoplasty surgery. There will also be individual presentations on the principles of rhinoplasty.

Hot Topics in Plastic Surgery: This is one of those events that people would love to be a part of. However, remember that unlike the above-mentioned two events, this event has a $250 entry-fee, which covers lunch as well. The event promises to host some of the luminaries in the plastic surgery industry. The event will also shed some light on the new developments in the field of technology related to plastic surgery such as devices and methodologies.

VIPs Forum: Surgical Volunteerism—Past, Present, and Future: This open forum will be focused on having a discussion on the experience of volunteer missions while cooperating with the local physicians during disaster relief efforts.

Sheryl Crow Rocks The USS Midway: Needless to say, this is the gala event on the first day of the meeting. In fact, it won’t be wrong to say that Sheryl Crow has lent a whole new excitement to the event. The ticket prices are $500 per person. What is worthwhile to know is that the whole glamour quotient will be for the benefit Fresh Start Surgical Gifts and The Plastic Surgery Foundation. These two organizations work for providing surgical care to children with congenital birth defects.

October 12

Breakfast with Champions: This event will give you the opportunity of getting to know more about plastic surgery champions. The event will start pretty early in the morning at 6:45 a.m., and will last until 8 a.m.

Medical Students’ Day: This event will see an interaction between medical students and residents and program directors. The event will provide students with all the important information about choosing a training program. Residents and program directors will reflect on their experiences as a plastic surgery resident.

Women Plastic Surgeons’ Luncheon: This meet will last for around two hours, and its focus will be on the importance of teamwork and collaboration for women in the professional environment. The speaker of the meet is Natalie H. Strand, MD. – One of the two women who won Amazing Race 17.

October 13

Live Demonstration: How to Decrease the Pain of Your Local Anesthesia Injection – Best Tips and Evidence: The meet will host a presentation on reducing pain while administering local anesthesia.

The PSF International and Research Reception: The meet is important as it will be hosted by the PSF President, Charles Verheyden. The event will be held at The Prado at Balboa Park. The event will aim at a discussion on the challenges plastic surgeons are facing in the current scenario.

October 14

San Diego Zoolala: A Wildlife Expedition: This event truly promises to be one-of-a-kind. The event will start with a private tour of the zoo, followed by a brunch. At the end of the event, visitors will have some spare time on their hands to visit the Australian Outback Park. The price of a ticket is $175 for an adult and $95 for a child.

ASPS/PSF Annual Business Meeting Luncheon: The flagship meeting will give members the opportunity to understand the different programs and activities that are currently underway at the ASPS and PSF. The issues concerning the Plastic Surgery Society will be discussed, and the financial reports of 2012/13 will be presented.

October 15

Plastic Surgery “Myth Busters: Controversies in Plastic Surgery” Closing Session Debate: This event promises to be an informative sessions on addressing the myths associated with plastic surgery. The session will also take a look at some of the controversies surrounding the plastic surgery industry.
