Organizations claim swift action on Breast Cancer Education
We’ve repeatedly referred to the crucial issue of raising awareness regarding the reconstruction rights of women suffering from breast cancer that had mastectomies (click here to read the detailed article by Emmy Owens) and it seems that this trend makes it even more necessary that there is much more in depth education regarding breast cancer. So many experts and advocates claim that swift action is taken by the Congress so as to implement the Breast Cancer Patient Education Action of 2015 (BPCEA) provisions. This will make it easier for women to understand the breast reconstruction options the moment of diagnosis.
This huge issue, of educating women regarding their reconstructive rights made the Society for Women’s Health Research (SWHR) claimed that the Congress approves the funds that are required in order that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to follow its duties to carry out a national campaign to educate people on the insurance coverage on breast reconstruction procedures. as they are described by BCPEA. SWHR also claimed that HHS starts the procedure to implement BPCEA and spread it to relevant websites and federal agencies.
Phyllis Greenberger, MSW, President and CEO of SWHR stated:“Passing BCPEA, frankly, is the beginning of the journey, not the end,” and added “That is why we are calling for action to implement BCPEA on an expedited basis.” Also the ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgeons) President Dr. David Song, MD, MBA, FACS confirmed that its true that many women are not aware of their reconstruction rights: “Today, there are many reconstruction techniques available that restore a breast to near normal shape, appearance and size following mastectomy,” and added “When it comes to invasive breast cancer, women, and especially those of minority backgrounds, should not be left without proper knowledge of their reconstruction rights so they can learn about their treatment options and make informed decisions.”
These steps to more effective treatment of the huge issue of breast cancer are quite important and hopefully they will drastically help in solving this big health problem.
